September 1st 2025)When the topics of bands and vans come up, there’s no better band to discuss than Morrissey Blvd. A family band from New Bedford, Massachusetts that truly brings psychedelic riffs, and the hippie, bare foot vibes to life. A band that is able to captivate a room with anything they play. The three brothers, Zan, Henri, and Wilson, bring a true and authentic hippie spirit to the stage, and I was lucky enough to witness them.
I first experienced Morriessey Blvd at The Space Ballroom in Hamden, Connecticut, opening for DogPark last fall. I wasn’t sure what to expect when they came on stage, but with no shoes on, and hair flowing, bass going, they came to life. With top songs like “Black tea,” “The woo hoo song,” and “Cabaret,” the audience was captivated. They truly were the highlight of the night, right next to DogPark’s exemplary performance. Despite having only a few of their own fans in the crowd, they played as if the whole audience were there for only them. Upon the moment of the sound emanating from their instruments, heads lifted, focusing on the incredible music. I, myself, was captivated by their sound. There weren’t many other thoughts going through my mind other than “Who are they? They’re so good!” and I certainly wasn’t alone.
The energy felt electric all throughout the small venue. People pushed together, merch they had just purchased on their shoulders, with drinks in hand, together everyone was moving from the moment Morrissey Blvd played their first chord.
The siblings blew up early when they were young, by opening up for The Temptations at a show in Cohasset, Massachusetts in 2021. Although having played for years before, due to this show, they started to come on the rise. One of their heavy hitters was performing at Mystic Aquarium for a show by the Belugas in 2022. With a long list of openings for many well known and on the rise indie artists, Morrissey Blvd claimed their name to fame.
Currently one of their biggest projects is affiliated with Mojo Fest, a music festival supporting on the rise and upcoming small artists, that additionally helps promote the Woodstock festival lifestyle of peace, love, rock and roll, and community. Playing two shows this year so far with Mojo Fest, one in Pennsylvania, the other in Massachusetts, Morrissey is rapidly climbing the ladder and successfully building a large fan base.
The band in a van lifestyle perfectly fits Morrissey Blvd. It allows for filming many videos for online and social media, all from within their van, or simply outside next to a fire place. The nature of the traveling vehicle band comes with many other beautiful locations, such as a beautiful beach, or perhaps a vast mountainside. It truly showcases how well traveled the van and the band itself is.
With their incredible adventures, and traveling to play shows all along the east coast, majorly New England, the Ford transit van is more than just well loved, it is a family member. I personally feel that Morrissey Blvd wouldn’t be who they are without it. It’s a form of identity, freedom, self expression and so much more . A band I would 110% see again, would highly recommend to a friend, would play on a long road trip or a day at the beach, I have nothing but the highest regard for Morrissey Blvd.
