Next Month: Steve Harz
Terri Lachance
Terri Lachance here. I have decided to fill a need and Analog Hype Machine is giving me an opportunity to explore a topic and its participants on a monthly basis,This first article will be an introduction but monthly will feature a performer that goes to Open Mics and an interview about their hopes and dreams and what certain Open Mics mean to them
I am a huge believer in them having been going to them since my mid twenties and running several monthly for years, all while being an Elementary School Teacher by day.
When I got back from the Peace Corps in 1986 after being out of the United States for three years, I had no social group. I was a song writer having started in High School. Open Mics were a great place to meet creative people:The Higher Ground in Bristol,The Cypress in Middletown, Perk on Main in Middlefield, La Vita’s in East Haddam and eventually The Buttonwood in Middletown. This is just a few of the many I attended. All were different with different formats but all were a great place to hone in on your craft. The more you do something, the better you get.
What I love about them is the anticipation of performing in front of an audience that is respectful and meeting other performers. Most people listen and give you feedback. They become your tribe.
Jump ahead in years and I am now a full time musician running Open Mics and booking some places for musicians, I have 9 CD’s of original music with a 10th coming out soon . I would not be close to the performer I am without Open Mics. They shaped me and gave me confidence. I hope you will learn about the people I meet out there in the world of Open Mics
